We headed up to Mt Hood for some good ol' fashioned sleeding. It was not quite the same as sledding in the Midwest, and we certainly made some rookie mistakes. We opted to go to the free hill without a tow rope (mistake #1). Although the hills we went sledding down were not as big as the ones I remember growing up (or maybe it's because I'm a little bigger now :)), they were certainly much more difficult to climb back up to the top. We underestimated the amount of fresh snow that falls in the mountains (mistake #2). Lets just say ken and I sank about thigh deep into the snow when we mis-stepped--which we did quite often. We didn't stay out too long though, as we only brought two pairs of gloves for emma, and neither of them were water proof (Mistake #3). This probably saved Ken and I from having a heart attack trying to climb through thigh deep snow, back up the hill though. All turned out well. Emma did not get frost bite! And we stopped at the Huckleberry Inn in Government Camp for some of their tasty huckleberry pie before heading home. Next time--we invest in warmer gloves and the hill with the tow rope though!
